Lori recognizes that most people don’t anticipate that they may one day lose sight of their strengths, or become stuck, or feel lost and out of control—in spite of the fact that all this is common and very human. She focuses on helping clients to feel comfortable with the therapeutic relationship and process, especially because what we do in therapy often involves dealing with what is uncomfortable and uncertain.

Her integrative approach draws from one or many evidenced-based therapies depending on the need, and includes empathy, non-judgment, and positive regard for each person no matter the circumstances. Lori welcomes the client’s active voice in the therapy’s focus, goals and pace. She focuses on inspiring hope, assisting with alternate views of the self and the world, and improving how emotion is experienced.

Lori’s approach sometimes turns to the theory of attachment– how we learn to interact with others and the world is partly based on our early childhood experiences. For clients who come to therapy for this, sessions may look like a thoughtful exploration of what’s going on now versus what came before in order to help elicit insight, self-compassion, and a chance to unhook from what was and proceed differently.

For clients who have specific issues such as anxiety, panic, agoraphobia, or OCD, Lori will draw from the cognitive behavioural therapies such as CBT, ACT and DBT along with Prolonged Exposure therapy to assist in treatment, tailored to each client’s needs.

Other issues that are more personality-related have been part of Lori’s work with clients. This includes things like perfectionism, rigidity, people-pleasing, feeling like an imposture, feeling empty, or feeling abandoned

Clients with ADHD are welcome to explore emotional issues in session as well as participate in skill-building.

For clients who prefer a more manualized, time-limited approach, Focussed-ACT or CBT is also available.

All of Lori’s work with clients is trauma-informed, focussing on making therapy a safe space to process and one where discussions are based on the client’s readiness and choice.
